UPLIFT the Human Spirit Scholarship Program

At Uplift the Human Spirit, we deeply value the transformative power of education and its critical role in empowering individuals and communities. With a firm commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of students in Northern California, we are proud to offer the Uplift Scholarship annually. Our aim is not only to assist students in achieving their academic goals but also to inspire them to contribute positively to their communities and preserve the rich heritage of the Hmong culture.

2024 Scholarship awards

We are excited to announce the availability of three scholarships for the year 2024, designed to support graduating students as they embark on their college journey in the Summer/Fall of 2024. The scholarship awards are as follows:

Uplift Scholarship 2024


The Uplift Scholarship is available to graduating high school students or current high school/GED graduates who will enroll in college for Summer/Fall 2024. To be considered, you must submit a completed Uplift Scholarship application and meet all qualifications. Awards will be paid out directly to students after proof of enrollment, details will be provided to recipients.

🏆3 Award Amounts:
  • (1) One individual will be awarded $1,000
  • (2)Two individuals will be awarded $500
📃Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must meet all of the eligibility listed below:
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Any person of Hmong descent
  • A San Joaquin County or Sacramento County resident
  • A high school senior, or current high school/GED graduate
  • Will be attending an accredited private/public college or university in Summer/Fall 2024
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • All Scholarship Winners/Recipients must attend scholarship information meeting via-Zoom. Meeting information will be coordinated and emailed to Recipients after winners are announced.
📌Required Scholarship Documents:
  • (1) One copy of your official transcript (official transcript need to be signed by a school personnel and (a) sent to through mail by the school or (b) signed official transcript emailed by school counselor) Counselors can email the official transcript to scholarship@upliftthehumanspirit.org with a subject line of "UPLIFT Scholarship - Official Transcript " or mail a physical copy to 1743 Grand Canal Blvd. #17, Stockton, CA 95207.
  • (2) Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a teacher)
  • A completed application (if you prefer to mail in your application, click here to download a copy)
  • Essay
📝Essay Subject: Describe why you deserve this scholarship. What aspect of the Hmong culture do you think is worth keeping for generations to come?

📃Essay Guideline:
  • Essay must be typed
  • 1 page minimum, 2 pages maximum
  • Single spaced
  • 1 inch margins
  • Arial, 12 point font
  • Include full name in essay header
📋Selection Process:
All applicants will be reviewed for a completed application and required documents. The scholarship essay will be reviewed and graded based on a scaled rubric by the Scholarship Committee.

📅Deadline: Application and supplemental documents must be electronically submitted or postmarked by 11:59PM PST on April 26, 2024.

📢Announcement: Scholarship recipients will be notified via-email and phone by Friday, May 3, 2024. Scholarship recipients will also be posted on our UPLIFT Scholarship Winners webpage.
